World Water Day  March 22nd, 2022 Thanks Bea for this beautiful mural Here at IES Virgen Del Puerto our students care for the planet and on World Water Day we learned about water preservation and its importance for our planet.  Students from 1st and 3rd of ESOS in the bilingual biology class got to discussing about why we need to preserve more water. They learned about ways that we can use less water, or use it more efficiently, on our everyday lives.  Now they are more conscious about the water issues that are going on around the world and they understand that not everyone has equal access to it. They also understand that water is a vital need for us and for the planet, and that we need to be aware of how we can make changes to alleviate climate change and global warming.  They also had a lot of fun while learning about world water day. Some of them got creative with the water cycle, while others got to draw and paint their ideas about water waste into drops made out of paper. They c

St. Patrick’s Day  March 17th On this day a group of Irish Leprechauns from 1st of ESOS invaded the school. But do not worry! They did not behave mischievously, on the contrary they were very friendly and nice.   They were extremely talkative and wanted us to learn about their home country and about themselves. They taught us where they come from and what their nationality is. And yes, you guessed it…they come from Ireland!!! I was lucky enough to talk to them myself and ask them questions. I even have pictures to prove that I met them, how exciting!  How lucky of me. Another awesome thing they told me is that they have money, but not just any money, they have a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow 🌈 They also told us that the shamrock is the national plant of their country, and the curious thing about it is that if you find a four leave one it will bring you good luck. So start looking for one! 🍀 Thank you to our students from 1st of ESOS Bilingual for these beautiful leprechauns

School Day of Non-violence and Peace  & Valentine’s Day  January 30th & February 14th  PEACE Before coming to Spain I had never heard of, or celebrated, School Day of Non-violence and Peace. This was a first time experience for me and I enjoyed it very much.  I got to do a lot of research about the day to understand its meaning and to be able to have discussions about it with the students.  With the bilingual students of 1st and 2nd of ESOS we got to talk about how and why the day originated and what it means to us today. Since we want our students to enjoy learning we try to teach them in a fun way. With these groups we created a word search with words relating to peace and non-violence. The fun part was they they did not have the words, they had to think of it and then find it 😃 We had fun doing it and new words were added to the student’s vocabulary. Students from FP Early Childhood Education also participated in celebrating this day. They came up with an amazing mural wher

Hello! My name is Maite and I am the English auxiliar for the 2021-2022 school year at IES Virgen Del Puerto.  I come from Tampa, a city in the state of Florida in the southeast of the United Sates. What I like the most about my city is the weather and that I was able to go to the beach as much as I wanted, and that is also what I miss the most. The beach is one of my favorite places to be and one of my dreams is to be able to travel to many different beaches in the world.  Other things that I like to do are reading, dancing and traveling. I like reading for some of the same reasons that I like to travel, I can get lost in the pages of a book just like I could in a new place and learn about new cultures and meet new people. And dancing has always been a part of my life, I only do it for fun and have never taken any lessons. I like to dance to many different rhythms and I am the happiest when I am able to do it. I graduated from the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa with a Ba

Hello Again! The past couple of months, working with the students of IES Virgen Del Puerto, have been a dream. We have accomplished so much together and had so much fun while doing it. We are trying to learn and practice English, while being happy. Here I want to share with all of you some of the different activities we did from October until the end of the year 2021. Of course, during the month of October there were many days of introduction and just getting to know each other. However, after we were feeling more comfortable with each other that’s when the fun started. Bilingual 1st of ESOS I mostly work with students from 1st to 4th of ESOS but sometimes I also get to visit with some of the bachillerato classes, and I even got the chance to meet with the FP Early Childhood Education students. One week back in October I went to the school in the afternoons to meet the the FP students and got to introduced myself to them. Since they are studying to become early childhood educators, Pi
